The Warm Homes: Local Grant DWP benefits checker
Introduction
The Warm Homes: Local Grant (WH: LG) DWP benefits checker service is used by GRs to verify receipt of means tested benefits of applicants who wish to receive upgrades under the scheme. Eligibility verification using receipt of means tested benefits is part of Pathway 2 of the WH:LG income eligibility pathways, as is set out in the WH: LG Policy Guidance (p.21).
Contents
Eligible benefits are:
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Pension Credit (savings and guarantee)
- Universal Credit.
The policy rules state that for a property to be eligible for support, at least one individual at the address, excluding full time students or lodgers, should be in receipt of one of the above benefits.
The DWP benefits checker service will require Grant Recipients (GRs) to extract the details of an individual at each address who they wish to verify is in receipt of benefits and submit this for DWP matching.
A DESNZ Webinar was carried out with a small group of GRs as part of a trial. It provides further information on the process of the DWP checker and requirements from GRs. GRs should watch this recording to get an overview of the process and a walkthrough of the steps they will be required to carry out to use the benefit checker.
